Montparnasse International Week
The first edition of Montparnasse International Week will take place in November 2026. Launching in the days following Armistice Day (November 11), which commemorates the end of the First World War, this date marks a historic turning point that reinforced shared values of solidarity and drew a diverse international community together. It was precisely this postwar momentum that birthed the legendary inter-war period of the École de Paris, transforming Montparnasse into a thriving, borderless sanctuary where expatriate artists from all over the world gathered alongside their French counterparts to shape the future of modern art.
Carrying this spirit into the present day, cultural spaces continue to serve as vital anchors in times of instability, protecting the plurality of voices and creative freedoms necessary to shape our future. By bridging museum curation, academic research, and artistic practice, this interdisciplinary program connects historic heritage sites with contemporary institutions.
The week opens with a two-day Global Symposium on November 13th and 14th tracing the history of Montparnasse as a locus for creative innovation and migration from the 20th century to the present, followed by a curated schedule of public events, site visits, and walking tours from November 15th to 21st. Hosted by participating institutions, the program maps the Montparnasse arts ecosystem to showcase the enduring legacy of the École de Paris and its vibrant spaces for intercultural artistic exchange today.
